If
notches aren’t your thing and it freaks you out or makes you
overwhelmingly frustrated, we know how it feels. The highly successful
Apple iPhone X with the first of its kind notch support fired an array
of smartphones from vivid brands sporting notches. Huawei’s P20 series
uses a small notch but the brand is trying to squeeze the notch to the
size of a camera with a ‘hole’. A source from the brand is believed to
have spoken to the Korean publication ETNews about Huawei latest concept
that will eliminate the support almost leaving only a hole on the
screen which will be for selfie camera.
Presently at its conceptual stage,
the hole in the screen design is pretty innovation as it will increase
the amount of screen available while reducing the size of a notch
because of which, only a handful of icons can be viewed on the status
bar. The design dictates how Huawei will punch a hole in the middle of
the screen for its front camera while the speaker, proximity sensor, and
ambient light sensor that accompanies camera in a notch setup, these
components will be fitted on a thin bezel at the top.
According to the sources, Huawei is
working on this hole-punching technology and might roll out a 6-inch LCD
display with a hole cut out in the fourth quarter of 2018 when it has
lined up several devices to launch. Huawei has devices such as Huawei
Mate Lite and Mate Pro in its lineup as of now.
Apple X notch support helped satisfy
both full-screen and front camera layout that was later used by other
smartphone manufacturers and it seems like there is no end to the list
of upcoming smartphones with a notch. A front camera requires light to
fall on its image sensor through its lens in order to capture it,
however, Huawei decided to punch a hole through the smartphone panel in
order to draw light from the surrounding into the panel that helps the
front camera to take photos clearly.
Chinese manufacturer Vivo and Oppo
recently unveiled its NEX and Find X with no notch and a full-screen
layout respectively even though both these brands have been actively
releasing smartphones with the notch. ETNews further stated how B-Boo – a
Chinese smartphone maker, launched a full-screen smartphone with pop-up
cameras similar to how Vivo unveiled its Vivo NEX with first elevating
front camera. Similarly, both LG Display and Samsung Display are
developing full-screen OLED panel without transmitters towards creating a
full-screen smartphone with tiny bezels.
